Charles Barkley is a former NBA player who spent his entire 22-year career with the Phoenix Suns. As one of the league’s most marketable players, Barkley has been no stranger to controversy. That didn’t stop him from joining another team, though. In an interview with Jon Wertheim of Sports Illustrated, Barkley revealed that he would have joined the Golden State Warriors had he known that it would have become a laughing stock.

Charles Barkley is a Hall of Famer and a legend, but would he have been a legend even if he never played in the NBA? He says yes. In an interview with Bill Simmons, Barkley discussed his thoughts on joining a superteam, which he admitted he would have done if he knew everyone was going to make fun of him for skipping out on a ring.

Many of the world’s best athletes are considered “superstars” because of their on-court success, so perhaps it’s no surprise that Charles Barkley has never been one of them. Barkley’s Hall-of-Fame career was short-lived, with his last appearance in the NBA coming in 2001. While in the league, he was rarely seen in the spotlight, and he has been vocal about his lack of NBA success. In a recent interview with TV Guide, Barkley revealed that he played on undesirable teams during his time in the league because he did not want to be “made fun of” for being a ringless player.. Since LeBron James formed the Big Three with the Miami Heat in 2010, the super team debate has been one of the hottest topics in the NBA. How do the championship titles of today’s players compare to the rings NBA players won in the pre-superteam era? But one former star seems to have absolutely no love for super teams. This former star is the one and only Charles Barkley, the NBA legend who ultimately never became a champion.

Charles Barkley doesn’t like super teams

. The current super team in the NBA are the Brooklyn Nets. Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden want to win the title together. Given that super teams are quite polarized, the NBA Nets have a lot of people supporting them in the playoffs. That includes Barkley. KD is a great player, and I think he’s a great guy, Barkley said recently, according to Sports Illustrated. I don’t know him that well, but I’m not a fan of super teams. So if they win, they win, but to be clear, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the boys. Fingers crossed against all the big teams. So why doesn’t he like super teams? One of the reasons is that their recruiting hinders the growth of other teams in the league. When Kawhi [Leonard] Left Toronto…. I will never go there again, Barkley said, as reported by SI. When LeBron left Cleveland, I never wanted to go back there. When James [Harden] left Houston, I never went back to Houston. The same thing happened when LeBron left Miami. Oklahoma City, if KD is gone, we are never going back. And I don’t think that’s good for the game.

However, he believes that in the current league there is more pressure on players to win titles. These young guys, they all succumb to peer pressure and think they have to win a championship or their lives suck, Barkley said, according to SI. I don’t think so. Look, there aren’t many people I’d trade my life for. Barkley admitted that he would have joined the super team…. would have joined if he knew how much people would laugh at him for not winning the ring. If I had known you guys would laugh at me for not winning a championship, I would have joined a great team back then – me, Patrick [Ewing], Karl Malone and John Stockton, he said, according to SI. But I’m satisfied with my inheritance. I’m sure Patrick, John and Carl are too.

Charles Barkley had an eventful NBA career without a championship

. Barkley has clearly embraced his legacy in the NBA, and rightfully so. He has received 11 NBA All-Star and All-Star nominations during his career. He also led the NBA in rebounds per game with 14.6 per game in 1986-87. In the 1992-93 season, Barkley was named the league’s MVP, averaging 25.6 points, 12.2 rebounds and 5.1 assists. He also helped the Phoenix Suns reach the NBA Finals that year, but they ultimately lost in six games to the Chicago Bulls. Overall, Barkley has averaged 22.1 points and 11.7 rebounds in his career. He ranks 20th in NBA/ABA history in total rebounds (12,546) and sixth in offensive rebounds (4,260). All of these accomplishments have earned him a place in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. While more and more players in this day and age are creating or joining super teams to win championships, Barkley has never won one. But Sir Charles still has many reasons to be happy with his inheritance. Ring or no ring, Barkley is an NBA legend.
