The Oakland Raiders will look to secure the AFC’s sixth and final wild card spot in Week 18. They’ll need a win over the Indianapolis Colts, while Derek Carr must throw for 300 yards with three touchdowns before halftime. This is an important game, as it could mean that they avoid playing their division-leading opponents on Wild Card weekend

How Derek Carr and the Las Vegas Raiders Can Clinch an AFC Wild Card Berth in Week 18

During the 2021 NFL season, the Las Vegas Raiders have been embroiled in a slew of scandals, tragedies, and controversies. Despite this, the club has persisted and is presently on the brink of qualifying for the NFL Playoffs in 2021. Here’s how the Raiders will aim to secure a postseason spot in Week 18 and what to look out for while they do it.

In Week 18 against the Los Angeles Chargers, how the Las Vegas Raiders secure a postseason spot.

The Raiders clinch a playoff spot with a win in Week 18 vs. the LA Chargers.

The Las Vegas Raiders’ Sunday Night Football matchup in Week 18 will presumably be their second playoff game of the 2021 season, yet the playoffs hasn’t even begun yet.

The Raiders confront a (near) perilous situation once again after prevailing in (what turned out to be) a win-or-go-home game against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 17.

The simplest way for the Raiders to clinch is for them to defeat their AFC West rivals, the Los Angeles Chargers. As a result, they’ll be an AFC Wild Card club.

Unlike the Chargers, though, the Raiders have a situation in which they might lose on Sunday and still reach the playoffs. The Las Vegas Raiders will secure a postseason berth even if they lose against the Chargers if the Indianapolis Colts lose (at the Jacksonville Jaguars) and the Pittsburgh Steelers lose (at the Baltimore Ravens).

There is one more possibility in which the Silver and Black will make the playoffs. And it’s a possibility that everyone in the NFL is discussing coming into Week 18.

The scenario that everyone is talking about is how the Raiders and Chargers both get in.

Because it is the closest thing to a winner-goes-on/loser-goes-home game Week 18 has to offer, the NFL flexed the Las Vegas Raiders vs. LA Chargers game to Sunday Night Football.

The difficulty is that this isn’t entirely accurate.

In Week 18, the Chargers may qualify with a victory or a draw. The Raiders may potentially enter the playoffs with a tie if the Colts lose to the Jaguars on Sunday at 1 p.m. EST.

On Sunday night, this poses an issue for the NFL.

Both teams will know that a tie will bring them into the playoffs if the Colts lose earlier in the day. “I believe we all value the game and the NFL shield and the integrity of this game far too much to be involved in anything like that,” Chargers head coach Brandon Staley stated on The Rich Eisen Show.

Will a coach risk for the victory and go for it on 4th down if the game is tight late? Or go for it on third-and-eight? They won’t go for two at the conclusion of regulation to attempt to win the game if a draw will suffice.

This bizarre circumstance should entice you to tune in and potentially see one of the strangest game-ending moments in NFL history.

Derek Carr vs. Joey Bosa is the game’s best matchup.

Following their October clash, Joey Bosa and Derek Carr had some things to say.

This Sunday night, there will be a rematch for a playoff berth.

Aside from the playoff spots on the line and a possibly historic finish, the clash between Las Vegas Raiders QB Derek Carr and LA Chargers DE Joey Bosa is another compelling incentive to tune in.

For the last five years, the two superstars have squared off twice a year in the AFC West. However, the competition between the quarterback and the passer-sacker erupted in Week 4 of the 2021 season.

The 2-1 Chargers defeated the 3-0 Raiders 28-14 that week to tie their records at 3-1. In his postgame presser after the game, Bosa threw some harsh truth bombs at Raiders quarterback Derek Carr.

“We knew after a couple hits, he gets extremely shaken,” said the four-time Pro Bowl pass rusher. “We knew if we put too much pressure on him, he’d shut down.” And he’s not as effective when his pocket is stuffed, so that was the key.”

Despite the defeat, which made it seem as though Bosa’s words were true, Carr did not take the disrespect lying down.

The QB commented the following day, “He was probably furious because I was talking nonsense to him throughout the game.” “Perhaps he was simply trying to irritate me.” He did, in fact, irritate me. So, kudos to you for that. But it isn’t always a negative thing.”

Another compelling reason to tune in to the last regular-season NFL game of the 2021 season is to see whether Bosa and company can get Carr “shook” or if the signal-caller can make the defense eat his words on the route to a Raiders victory.
