In 2007, Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins was the second overall pick in the NFL draft. The following year, South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw was selected in the last round of the draft by the Chicago Bears. These two off-the-radar picks each went on to have productive careers in the NFL. Four years later, another SEC quarterback was the second overall pick in the draft. A few picks later, another SEC quarterback started the final game of the 2017 season. The question is: which quarterback was better?
This week we start the countdown to the 2018 NFL Draft, so it’s a good time to look back at the 2017 season and compare the final rankings of the draft experts to see how the year played out. For this analysis, I’ve compared every quarterback taken in the first round since 1998 and compared them to each other, complete with a statistical comparison of their college statistics and test scores.
Is Zach Wilson better than Trevor Lawrence? The Jacksonville Jaguars certainly didn’t see it that way. With the first pick in the NFL draft, they could have taken any of these QBs, and they chose Lawrence. On the other hand, the New York Jets will probably say they liked Wilson better from the start and are glad he was picked second. NFL analyst Chris Sims recently became embroiled in this debate when he announced his 2021 quarterback rankings and had to choose between these two candidates.Zack Wilson vs Trevor Lawrence: History of Band

He came to the Big Apple from Draper, Utah, and Brigham Young University. Lawrence is originally from Cartersville, Georgia, and attended Clemson University. He is 1.80 m tall and weighs 100 kg. Both quarterbacks have exceptional arms and can move. Wilson is a great run-stuffing pitcher like Aaron Rodgers, and Lawrence has shown great scrambling ability for a big man like Josh Allen. Wilson and Lawrence each started three seasons at their respective schools, with Lawrence starting a few more games in his junior year. In 40 games, Lawrence has scored 10,098 yards with a 66.6 percent completion rate. He added 90 passing touchdowns and 18 rushing touchdowns against 17 interceptions. Wilson has accounted for 7,652 yards in 30 games with a 67.6 percent completion rate. He threw for 56 touchdowns and grabbed 15 rebounds. The main difference between the two setters is the level of competition they faced and the Big Plays they made. Lawrence won the ACC Championship and played three years in the College Football Playoff. He was a two-time national champion, winning it in his first year. Wilson only played with two highly ranked teams in his final year at BYU: Boise St. and Coastal Carolina. Wilson also bowled every season, but the bowls in Boca Raton, Hawaii and the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl don’t reach the level of Lawrence’s bowling.
Chris Sims’ quarterback rating for 2021 Wilson is ahead of Lawrence
Chris Simms is an NFL analyst for NBC, a former quarterback in college and pro, and the son of former NFL quarterback and current TV analyst Phil Simms. Chris Simms puts out a top 40 QB list every year that often gets a lot of attention. His roster has already been controversial this season by favoring Justin Fields and Trey Lance, both third-round picks, over first-round picks. When the team was only halfway through, Chris Sims stepped up and placed the second choice ahead of the man who took the first spot. The former Texas Longhorns QB put Trevor Lawrence at 28th and Zach Wilson at 27th. To justify his change to the draft position, Chris Simms began by telling Pro Football Talk host Mike Florio that he thinks Trevor Lawrence is great and rejects the idea that his rankings are clickbait. Then he vigorously defended his rank by saying: Zach Wilson is definitely the number one quarterback in the draft for me. There’s a separation. Zach Wilson is a very, very special football player in every way. The only downside I can think of is that I wish it was a little thicker and bigger. He’s 6-3, 210, but I don’t think that matters in the NFL these days, and I like his build. He goes on to say that he was shocked by Wilson, who he describes as a combination of Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes, which is high praise for any NFL analyst.
Zach Wilson vs Trevor Lawrence in the 10th round of
Pro football is a true team sport, and a QB’s win-loss record doesn’t tell the whole story. When QBs meet, you can often get an idea of the relative talent of each passer. That’s exactly what we’ll see when Wilson’s Jets and Lawrence’s Jaguars meet in Week 10 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Both players have their first NFL head coach: Robert Saleh of the Jets and Urban Meyer of Jacksonville. Both teams have improved their offense around their young future stars. The Jets focused on the offensive line, while the Jags upgraded their weapons by selecting Lawrence’s college teammate, running back Travis Etienne. Week 10 is far enough into the season for these two top players to show who they are and what they can become in the NFL. This may not give us a definitive answer to the next question: Is Zach Wilson better than Trevor Lawrence? But that should get us closer to a clue. All statistics are from Sports Reference COMPARED TO: ESPN’s NFL analyst is betting on the New York Jets as the firstpick in 2022.It’s been a little over a year since the NFL Draft and the Carolina Panthers selecting quarterback Cam Newton with the 1st overall pick. Since that draft, Newton has been on a consistent path of decline and a real threat to his career. The Panthers decided to switch to a Blaine Gabbert-led offense and a one-year backup in Christian McCaffrey, and Newton is making a much better season under center..
