Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback, Justin Fields, has been a very polarizing figure in the sports world over the last year. On one hand, fans and media alike have generally praised his performance in the Buckeye’s Rose Bowl loss to the CFP runner-up, Oklahoma. But on the other, many—including many within his own family—have panned his immature behavior and questioned his maturity.
Nothing is slowing down the Baltimore Ravens these days. They are on fire, and it is only week four. On Sunday, the Ravens (1-2) got a much needed win over the Buffalo Bills (1-2) by a final score of 23-10. Although the Ravens had to hang on late to beat the Bills, they were not that concerned with their victory. The Ravens, during their post-game press conferences, made it clear that they are not impressed with the lack of action in the NFL so far. They claim the NFL is being “slow”, and that they are not “ready” for 1st quarter action.
For Jaguars QB Justin Fields, the NFL Combine was a tryout for the rest of his life. The elite quarterback prospect is expected to be selected in the first round of the NFL Draft, likely around No. 5 overall. There are plenty of great quarterbacks in this year’s draft, including USC’s Sam Darnold, UCLA’s Josh Rosen and Wyoming’s Josh Allen. But there’s one player who has everyone buzzing around him: Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa. The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder is considered the best quarterback in the draft class. The Chicago Bears’ Justin Fields had a strong preseason debut.
On August 14, Fields made his presence known to the NFL by playing against Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins. The Bears’ rookie quarterback completed 14 of 20 passes for 142 yards and one score. Fields also scored a running touchdown after gaining 33 yards on the ground.
Fields had a near-perfect performance. His post-game remarks, on the other hand, were less than ideal.
After his first preseason game, Justin Fields described the NFL as “slow.”

Fields gave some insight into how his first taste of NFL play felt after the Bears’ victory against the Dolphins. His remarks come off as arrogant, to say the least:
“To be honest, it was a little slow,” Fields said. “Every day coming up against [the Chicago defense] slows things down for me” (Kevin Fishbain, The Athletic).
Most NFL fans were first enthralled by this newfound confidence. The former Ohio State quarterback is already a fan favorite in the league, with many expecting him to be anointed the Bears’ starting quarterback as soon as possible. Fields and his charm have piqued the interest of Chicago fans, who are eager for a “franchise quarterback” to call their own.
While Fields’ venomous remarks enraged Twitter, it didn’t take long for karma to lash back.
The Bills’ defense ensured that karma was served.
Fields got a taste of what it’s like when the NFL isn’t always “slow” when he faced the Bills on August 21.
Fields’ left tackle at the time fumbled a blocking assignment, giving a Bills defensive lineman a clear look at the Bears quarterback. Fields wasn’t even looking in that way when he was slammed into the ground by an uncontested blindside tackle. He landed on the grass, his helmet and headband flying away.
Fields didn’t care that the Bills defender was penalized for the violent sack (which was ruled helmet-to-helmet). He had to feel the whole tackle, and it’s something he won’t forget anytime soon.
Fields’ performance against Buffalo wasn’t nearly as spectacular as his performance against Miami, which may or may not be related. The rookie quarterback only completed 9 of his 19 throw attempts for a total of 90 yards.
So much for the NFL’s perceived sluggishness?
In Chicago, Justin Fields is still the starting quarterback.

While Bears head coach Matt Nagy seems to be ready to die on the “Andy Dalton is our starter” throne, the truth is that Fields will eventually take over as Chicago’s quarterback. Fields is so valuable to the Bears that they traded up a future first-round selection to get him.
Fields will still have to go through the process of becoming a professional quarterback in the interim. Fields isn’t the only one who refers to the NFL as “slow” or “easy.” It’s been tried before by a lot of young athletes, but it nearly always backfires.
Fields’ current emphasis should be on approaching the game with humility and a willingness to learn and develop until he has a résumé to brag about.
