Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Blasts John Stockton for Giving Athletes 'Dumb Jocks' Perception

Look for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to get an assist from John Stockton in the not-too-distant future. Gonzaga, Stockton’s alma university, briefly revoked his season tickets when he failed to comply with the school’s mask policy.

Abdul-Jabbar stepped in after Stockton explained why he didn’t wear a mask. Abdul-Jabbar slammed Utah Jazz star and NBA Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for portraying sportsmen as “stupid jocks.”

John Stockton’s Gonzaga season tickets were recently revoked.

Stockton was instrumental in putting Gonzaga on the basketball map in the early 1980s. He led the Zags to a 17-11 record as a senior, their best in the preceding 17 years. Stockton was a first-round pick of the Utah Jazz in the 1984 NBA Draft after a tryout with the United States Olympic team in 1984.

Stockton’s season tickets were recently banned after he refused to wear a mask during the games. Stockton is a vocal opponent of COVID-19 vaccinations and mask regulations. As a result, the school had no option except to temporarily revoke his tickets.

“Basically, it came down to the fact that they wanted me to wear a mask to the games, and as a public person, someone a little bit more prominent, I stood out a little more in the crowd,” Stockton told The Spokesman-Theo Review’s Lawson.

“As a result, they got complaints and were compelled to either ask me to wear a mask or suspend my tickets because of whatever higher-ups – they weren’t addressed, but whatever it was higher up – they were going to have to ask me to wear a mask or suspend my tickets.”

‘It doesn’t make sense what he’s saying,’ Kareem Abdul-Jabbar said of John Stockton.

Stockton told The Spokesman-Review that many professional players had died as a result of the vaccination, a claim that has yet to be substantiated.

Stockton, the NBA’s all-time assist leader, said, “I think it’s highly recorded now, there’s 150 I believe now, it’s over 100 professional athletes dead – professional athletes – in the prime of their lives, dropping dead that are vaccinated, right on the pitch, right on the field, right on the court.”

Many people were taken aback by the remarks, including Abdul-Jabbar, who angrily refuted them, claiming that it is statements like these that give players the reputation of being “stupid jocks.”

“I believe remarks like (Stockton’s) make sportsmen seem like essentially foolish jocks for attempting to explain away something that is plainly a pandemic, and the greatest way to battle pandemics is via vaccination and testing,” Abdul-Jabbar told CNN. “Those are the methods by which we identify the problem and try to mitigate it as best we can.”

“I don’t think anybody else is saying anything that makes sense.” What he’s saying doesn’t make any sense. This is a prophylactic approach that has shown to be effective in a variety of situations.”

Stockton claims that his connection with Gonzaga is not strained.

Stockton will stay away from Gonzaga for the time being until the mask ban is lifted. To preserve his tickets, he claimed he considered donning a mask.

He told The Spokesman-Review, “Of course.” “When you’re faced with a situation like that, you think about everything, and you think about every alternative, and I thought about it in great depth.”

“Tickets will be reoffered if the regulation changes.” I’m not sure what word to use. When the regulation is altered.”

He believes the mask incident will not have a long-term impact on his long-term connection with the institution.

“I believe time will tell on all of that,” he added. “There are certainly a number of various routes this can go in.” “My priority, as well as theirs, is to sustain that bond.” They’ve made it obvious that we’re both important to them, and I don’t expect that to change. However, there are a few dead ends that we’ll have to work out.

“I’ve been around here a long time, so whatever it is, I don’t anticipate it to last.”
