In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kobe Bryant said this: “I would sit by myself and watch Michael Jordan interviews. I would go on the team planes and sit there and just watch whatever Michael Jordan interviews I could find. I would just watch them and just think — ‘Wow, just being able to sit there and watch Michael Jordan just do his thing, just what he does, I would love to be able to do that someday.’”

It was a long, hard road to Kobe Bryant’s first NBA Championship on the Lakers in 2008. In fact, the journey long seemed like it would never end, as the third-year player struggled with his weight, took a break from the game to film a movie, and slowly made his way back to the top.

Ever since he retired, many have wondered what the former basketball legend would do if he were an NBA player today. Would Kobe Bryant take the court, or would he sit on a bench, or would he go solo? In a recent interview with GQ, Kobe says he would sit by himself on the team plane, watch Michael Jordan interviews and sit on the bench in the locker room.. It was like seeing a different version of Michael Jordan when Kobe Bryant was on the court. Bryant didn’t have the same level of success as Jordan, but he perfected his game and had the same deadly attitude throughout his NBA career.

Bryant, on the other hand, didn’t want to be like Mike only on the court; he also sought to be like him off it. Bryant would really sit alone and watch Jordan interviews.

Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant have a unique bond.

You could see Jordan in Bryant’s game from the minute he stepped onto the NBA floor. He had many of MJ’s movements, as well as a competitive attitude.

Despite Bryant’s continuous desire to outperform Michael Jordan, the two superstars had a unique bond.

Jerry West of ESPN stated of the two, “If you simply watched them interact in a game, Kobe was always like a magnet heading toward Michael.” “When Michael was on the court, he didn’t usually engage with many guys. He’d simply goof around. But for some reason, he felt a connection with him.”

Bryant seems to have looked to Jordan for inspiration and guidance, as he referred to Jordan as “big brother” and MJ as “little brother.”

According to ESPN, Jordan stated during Bryant’s funeral service, “Perhaps it shocked folks that Kobe and I were really good friends.” “However, we were very close friends.”

While Bryant excelled at imitating Jordan on the court, he also attempted to emulate him in other areas.

Kobe sat through MJ’s press conferences.

Jon Barry was a member of the Los Angeles Lakers in 1997-98, Bryant’s second season in the league, and he recently spoke about what it was like to play on a team with him.

On the July 20 edition of The Dan Patrick Show, Barry stated, “He simply wanted to play, and that’s all he did.” “He wouldn’t even speak on our planes.” I think he composed a lot of rap music and lyrics. He also refused to participate in our reindeer games of cards and other activities. He would stay alone, write anything he wanted, and watch Michael Jordan interviews; he would never leave the city where we were visiting.”

Wait, he’d really pay attention to Jordan’s interviews?

“More than anything else in the world, he wanted to be him — and to be better,” Barry added. “ He came near, but it was all he cared about.”

Bryant came close; he and Jordan were two of the best athletes of all time.

Whatever Bryant did to improve his game clearly paid off, and watching those interviews didn’t hurt either. Bryant played basketball in a similar fashion to Jordan and went on to become an NBA icon.
