Larry Bird was once so upset about a loss he busted into the opposing team’s locker room the next day to challenge them to a rematch. Read more in detail here: larry bird hall of fame teammates.

Larry Bird is renowned for many things, but one of them is not losing. As a member of the Boston Celtics, Bird won three NBA championships and contributed to the team’s decades-long dynasty. At every level of basketball, the two-time Finals MVP triumphed.

All of the victories just added to the pain of the defeats. Bird was reportedly so enraged after losing a game that he went into the other team’s locker room the following day and demanded a rematch right then and there.

Larry Bird was born to be a winner.

Larry Bird won 751 games with the Boston Celtics during the course of his 13-year career. In 1981, 1984, and 1986, his teams won NBA titles.

He was a part of the 1992 Dream Squad, generally regarded as the best basketball team ever put together.

Bird also coached the Indiana Pacers for three seasons, going 147-67. His club reached the playoffs in 1998, but were defeated in seven games by Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. That season, he was awarded NBA Coach of the Year, his first as a head coach at any level. Under Bird’s leadership, Indiana won their division all three seasons and advanced to the NBA Finals in 2000.

He subsequently returned to Indiana as head of basketball operations for the Pacers. In 2011-12, he was named NBA Executive of the Year, making him the first individual in NBA history to earn MVP, Coach of the Year, and Executive of the Year.

Peter Vecsey is a well-traveled sports writer and commentator best known for his work on the NBA on NBC broadcast team in the 1990s. During one of Boston’s post-all-star break west coast road trips in 1986, Vecsey went along for the journey with Bird and the Celtics.

Vecsey discussed an encounter he had with Larry Legend during the road trip’s first stop in Sacramento on the Drinkin’ Bros Podcast. The Celtics were defeated by the Kings in a game in which Bird missed two crucial free shots. In 1986, travel was a little different, so the team remained at Sacramento and trained the next day in the Kings’ arena.

Sacramento moved out and approached its locker room as the Celtics came in for practice. Bird informed Vecsey that he would be following the Kings and invited the reporter to join him.

“You f****** people, you think you’re f****** good?” Bird said to the Sacramento players, riled up and ready to go. Let’s go through it again right now. “Let’s get going,” Vecsey says.

Basketball excellence resulted from the Hall of Famer’s competitiveness.

The two teams didn’t play another game that afternoon, of course. Bird, on the other hand, did not give up without a fight. The f-bomb assaults and intimidation effect of the reigning MVP standing in your locker room asking you to a rematch should be enough to make you reconsider.

During his illustrious NBA career, Larry Bird was no stranger to trash-talking and out-competing others. But it’s a great illustration of The Hick from French Lick’s ruthlessness, which helped him win two more championships with the Celtics and add to his lengthy list of basketball accomplishments.
