Last season, Cleveland qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2002, and their young and talented roster has the potential to last for years to come. A big part of the Browns’ recent resurgence has been the revival of the ground-and-pound offensive game plan, led by Chubb himself. The Georgia product was drafted in the second round in 2018, and he was nothing short of impressive for the Dawg Pound. In his first three years as a pro, Chubb ran for 3,557 yards and threw for 28 touchdowns. He’s made it to the Pro Bowl two seasons in a row and only seems to be getting better. Cleveland has built its entire offense around Chubb and teammate Kareem Hunt. The Browns don’t want to lose him when his rookie contract expires after the 2021 season, and Chubb clearly doesn’t want to leave either.
Chubb on his future with the Browns: Cleveland is where I wanna be
. Professional athletes today change teams almost as often as they change underwear. There’s almost no loyalty left in sports, but at least Chubb seems to have it. The star running back spoke to reporters on Tuesday about his confidence at the start of the year, what the offense looks like and what he thinks about a possible contract extension. It’s safe to say that Chubb would be very happy if this became a reality this summer. I don’t like the uncertainty, and I know I have a rapport with the players and coaches here in Cleveland, Chubb said. This is the city of Cleveland, and I don’t know how it would go in other places. So Cleveland is where I want to be, and being here in Cleveland is my main goal. Chubb said he appreciates that the Browns gave him a chance in 2018, so he wants to give back to the franchise as best he can. Cleveland has drafted me for years, trusted me and believed in me to come here and help create the culture of this team I’m a part of, he said. I feel like Cleveland is where I want to be, and I hope it goes that way.
What would a contract extension look like?
#Browns Nick Chubb and Denzel Ward report that their agents are negotiating contract extensions with the team. – Camryn Justice (@camijustice) June 15, 2021 At Tuesday’s press conference, Chubb said his business manager has been in contact with the Browns about a possible contract extension this offseason. His rookie contract expires at the end of this season, so a contract extension now would make the most sense for both parties. But what will the new contract look like for Chubb? According to Spotrac, Chubb has a market value of $12.1 million per year, which would make him the seventh highest paid running back in the NFL. A four-year contract worth around $50 million would be very lucrative for the 25-year-old. I’ll leave it to my agent and the Browns to figure it out, Chubb said. I’m here to play, to be here for my team, to get better and try to be a better teammate and a better team. That’s all I focus on, and it should take care of itself.
