Ever since Phil Mickelson won the Masters in a controversial finish in April, he has been in a bit of a foul mood. After the final round, the four-time major champ was asked by a reporter about how many seconds it took him to decide he wanted to hit his shot over the green on the last hole – and Mickelson’s response was not kind.

On Thursday, golfer Phil Mickelson confronted reporter Curt Cavin about this week’s Sports Illustrated story on the Tiger Woods scandal. “How’s that story now?” Mickelson asked Cavin during the 2nd Annual Phil Mickelson Classic Pro-Am in Palm Springs. “Here’s the thing about sports: It’s like a soap opera. I don’t believe any of it. I don’t believe any of it. I’ve never been able to believe that Tiger Woods ever cheated. I’ve never believed that.”

In a lengthy interview at the Lenox Classic in Harlem, the former US Ryder Cup captain and two-time major championship winner and avid golf fan Phil Mickelson blasted Detroit reporter David Mayo for writing an article in GOLF Magazine about a 23-year-old story of a young man.. Read more about phil mickelson net worth and let us know what you think.Phil Mickelson has never played in a golf tournament in the city of Detroit. He hasn’t been in the Detroit metro area in almost 13 years. After an unflattering reception by a local newspaper, Mickelson initially reacted harshly.

After all, nothing says welcome to Detroit like a story about a 23-year-old bookie’s allegations. The allegations, by the way, don’t go so far as to say Mickelson did anything wrong. The 51-year-old changed his schedule to attend the event and felt overwhelmed by it.

Mickelson, the second-richest golfer on the list, has withdrawn his initial threat, but the paper’s image is certainly bad. What caused all this commotion?

The Detroit News has a story about Phil Mickelson’s ties to a local bookie

Just days before the first round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic at the Detroit Golf Club, the Detroit News published a story that Mickelson had contacted a bookie in Grosse Pointe Park (a suburb of Detroit).

According to the report, dandy Don DeSeranno stole $500,000 from Mickelson. The Seranno reportedly took a number of courses in the mid-late 1990s and early twenty-first century. In the early twentieth century, bets were made by prominent gamblers in a Las Vegas casino.

How did this story come out? Transcripts of De Seranno’s testimony in the trial of a man accused of leading an organized crime gang in the Detroit area were not released in court documents until 2018. DeSeranno received immunity in exchange for his testimony and answered questions about Mickelson during the trial.

Mickelson has never denied that he likes to make bets. But how should he react when a statement that has been around for three years suddenly appears in the local press, two days before a multiple winner of a major tournament makes his first appearance in town? It doesn’t pass the pure chance test.

Mickelson responds strongly during rain delay

On the first day of the Rocket Mortgage Classic, Phil Mickelson turned to Twitter during a rain delay. In his deleted tweet, he said he would not return to the tournament. He then explained to the Detroit Free Press why he was so angry.

I usually take a few weeks off after the U.S. Open. But I really liked what Rocket Mortgage is trying to do with this community and participate in it. And I wanted to. I felt that as a PGA champion I could do something good and maybe help the tournament. And I thought, I think Rob Snell (journalist) wrote an article this week that was very opportunistic, selfish and irresponsible.

Glenn Cohen, Mickelson’s attorney, told the Detroit News that it was not a story.

It’s old news, and my client did nothing wrong.

Two days after the article was published, Mickelson linked to a tweet from Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant about his Twitter habits. Durant is often criticized for responding to those who hurl accusations at him on social media.

However, Mickelson has softened his stance and now hopes to draw a positive lesson from the incident.

Phil Mickelson now hopes that something good will come of it.

Phil Mickelson did not play on the final day of the Rocket Mortgage Classic. He finished the tournament at 3-under par 285, at the bottom of the leaderboard. He opened the tournament with a 69, but then shot three consecutive rounds of 72.

But organizers believe Mickelson’s participation in the tournament in May boosted ticket sales. Mickelson also dropped his threat to boycott future Rocket Mortgage matches.

But if Detroit golf fans want the oldest player to ever win a major championship to return in 2022, there are some conditions. A petition has been created on change.org to get Mickelson back in town. He said he would. But only if the petition reaches the goal of 50,000 signatures. In addition, each signatory must promise to perform a random act of kindness to another member of the community, the Detroit News reports.

With Tiger Woods still out of golf indefinitely as he recovers from injuries sustained in a car accident in early 2021, Mickelson is the more attractive player. His incredible victory at the PGA Championship only increased Lefty’s popularity.

When Phil Mickelson returns to Detroit next year, we will know that something good came out of this incident.
