Russell Westbrook is a free agent, and the Lakers are in need of an All-Star point guard. It’s been more than five years since Russell was traded to OKC. Now that he has won back-to-back MVPs with them, there might be no better time for him to return home again.

The “los angeles lakers” is a team that has been struggling for a while. Russell Westbrook might be the Lakers’ greatest solution to their problems.

Russell Westbrook Might Actually Be the Lakers' Greatest Solution to Their Problems

Russell Westbrook has become the face of everything that is wrong with the Los Angeles Lakers, whether it is fair or not.

Westbrook is performing below expectations, there’s no doubt about it. But it’s his $44.2 million salary, which is the most on the squad, that highlights his flaws more than anybody else on the roster. Worse, his $47 million price tag for next season would put the Purple and Gold in a more tighter position than they are now.

In Lakerland, things may seem dismal. Westbrook, on the other hand, may be the answer to LA’s issues. Even better, it would necessitate his never setting foot on the floor at Crypto.com Arena again.

The Lakers and Russell Westbrook have a’mutual interest’ in parting ways.

This summer, Westbrook arrived in Los Angeles as the last piece of the championship jigsaw. The Lakers could construct a lineup of octogenarians and still win a championship owing to their superstar triumvirate of Russ, LeBron James, and Anthony Davis.

That strategy didn’t work out. Russ has appeared in all but one of the Lakers’ 61 games, putting them at 27-34. Fortunately, Westbrook looks to be just as eager to put a stop to this disastrous experiment as the rest of the team, particularly the Lakers.

According to Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer is a character in the film Jake Fischer, there is “mutual interest in finding Westbrook a new home this summer.” If both sides succeed, the nine-time All-Star will be sent to his sixth club in five seasons. The 33-year-old has previously played for the Washington Wizards, Houston Rockets, and Oklahoma City Thunder, among others.

Westbrook has spent the most of LA’s season on the floor. However, his work has injured people much more frequently than it has helped them. Brodie is averaging 18.1 points per game while shooting 43.2 percent from the field and 28.6 percent from three-point range. In addition to 7.7 rebounds, 7.3 assists, and 4.0 turnovers per game, he averages 7.7 rebounds, 7.3 assists, and 4.0 turnovers a game.

The fact that Westbrook wants to go is the solution to LA’s issues.

Many questioned how Westbrook’s shooting issues and downhill style would fit well with James, Davis, and the rest of LA’s team from the start. After 61 games, it’s safe to conclude the skeptics were correct.

Russ, on the other hand, isn’t only doing himself a favor by desiring a change of scenery this summer. He’s also making the Lakers’ lives a lot simpler.

Westbrook could easily exercise his $47 million player option for 2022-23 and call it a day at this point. However, he’s open to a change, whether it’s a trade or a full buyout.

It would be more difficult to negotiate a transaction. Russ hasn’t helped himself in terms of raising his value, as seen by LA’s unsuccessful effort to deal him before the trading deadline last month. To sweeten the deal, the Lakers would have to bundle him with at least one first-round selection. Even yet, there isn’t much of a market for his services (at his present pricing).

The greatest option for LA, and one that Westbrook may suddenly support, is a buyout. The Lakers may stretch the remaining money on Westbrook’s contract over multiple years, much as they did with Luol Deng before the 2018-19 season. According to Fischer, the move will save the Lakers money and enable them to make some significant signings.

Stretching Westbrook would put the Lakers only $2.5 million over the salary cap, allowing them to add a rotation component to the non-taxpayer mid-level and another player to the bi-annual exception, according to the [salary cap] strategist.

“At the very least, you’ll be able to put something together,” said another capital market expert. “It might end up being their greatest decision because it puts some pieces around LeBron.”

For the Lakers, it’s not the best option. For what it’s worth, Deng is receiving $5 million from the Lakers this season as a result of his 2018 buyout. But that’s the greatest alternative LA has, and knowing Westbrook would be receptive to it is definitely beneficial.

This summer, Russell Westbrook can assist the Lakers, but not this season.

Moving on from Westbrook is the best way for the Lakers to regain their footing in 2022-23. But it isn’t going to address their problems this season. Unfortunately, there isn’t much that can be done about it.

The Lakers needed Westbrook more than ever to keep their playoff hopes alive as Davis recovered from a mid-foot injury. Instead, since Davis’ injury on Feb. 16, the 2016-17 MVP has struggled in his three games. Russ shot only 35.8% from the field and 0-of-9 from outside the arc in defeats to the Los Angeles Clippers, New Orleans Pelicans, and Dallas Mavericks. In two of those games, he had zero turnovers, but in LA’s 28-point defeat to New Orleans, he had seven.

Expect little improvement in Westbrook’s stats even when (or if) AD returns. While his attempts may be down, he’s still had far too many bad games with the big man on the floor, like as his 1-of-10 shooting performance against the New York Knicks in a rare February victory.

The Lakers will be fortunate to go through the play-in round and win one or two playoff games. However, there is a ray of optimism on the horizon if Westbrook senses his time with the Lakers is coming to an end as well.
