In their most anticipated game of the year, the Seattle Seahawks were everything we thought they would be. They started the game with a bang, scoring on their first possession with an explosive play from receiver Doug Baldwin to get the crowd amped. The team looked fast and strong, with the wide receivers doing everything Russell Wilson could ask of them. They dominated the field position battle and took the lead at halftime, leading 20-0. The offense had scored on all seven of their possessions, never punting or turning the ball over. The defense was playing lights out, forcing three more turnovers and giving up just three points in the second half when they fell behind. It’s been a wild start to the season for the Seattle Seahawks, who have lost three of their first four games. As a result, Seattle has fallen from a two-loss favorite (yes, they actually were favored to win the Super Bowl in Las Vegas) to just a 7.5-point favorite to win the NFC West. However, as we all know, it’s way too early to start panicking, especially since the Seahawks were only favored by about 4 points on the road in Arizona last week.
To put it simply, I think the Seahawks lost to the Redskins. Sure, it’s always a difficult task to perform against a team the caliber of Seattle, and no amount of preparation can make you look at the game of football the same way you do when you’re facing a ravenous team like the Redskins.. A quarterback can never have too many wide receivers, according to one NFL axiom. Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks believed they were on the verge of another big victory this weekend until Dede Westbrook’s old position coach came up with a last-second triumph.
At one time, Dede Westbrook was on the verge of signing a lucrative deal.

After a terrible sequence of events in the previous year, Westbrook made a big stride forward this weekend.
After coming through the junior-college route, Westbrook excelled at Oklahoma, catching 126 passes for 126 yards and 21 touchdowns. Westbrook was the 15th receiver selected in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars, who selected him in the fourth round.
As a rookie, Westbrook, 27, made five starts for the Jaguars. He made 66 receptions in each of the following two seasons, totalling eight touchdowns, but never developing into a full-time starter. For most of his tenure in Jacksonville, he also served as a punt returner, averaging 9.8 yards per attempt.
In 2020, though, things began to go wrong for Westbrook. He was the Jaguars’ No. 4 receiver out of training camp, and he was a healthy scratch in two of the first six games. He tore his ACL in Week 7 against the Los Angeles Chargers, ending his season.
He was just a season away from a potential second NFL deal when he was injured and unsigned in 2020. Teams in need of wide receivers had already sorted through free agents and draft possibilities by the time the OK to start football activities came.
The Seattle Seahawks have turned down Dede Westbrook.
Westbrook had planned a last series of visits across the league, starting with the Minnesota Vikings and ending with the Seahawks, with training camps due to open in a matter of days. If things don’t work out, he’ll look at the San Francisco 49ers and Cincinnati Bengals, according to sources.
The Vikings seemed like a good place to start. Minnesota dealt veteran Stefon Diggs to the Buffalo Bills a year ago and selected Justin Jefferson with one of the draft choices received in the transaction. The former LSU standout had a fantastic debut season. Although Adam Thielen, who will be 32 before the start of the season, seems to have much to give, there’s no reason Westbrook couldn’t knock over Olabisi Johnson and Chabe Beebe for the No. 3 wideout spot.
Even with David Moore gone, Seattle’s receiving needs are less pressing now that D’Wayne Eskridge has been selected to join Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf.
Even yet, Wilson and the Seahawks had to be upset when Westbrook canceled his last-minute job hunt in Seattle by signing a one-year deal with the Vikings over the weekend.
The Vikings took use of an ancient relationship.
Keenan McCardell had a 16-year NFL career with five clubs, catching 883 passes for 883 yards and 63 touchdowns. McCardell returned to coaching three years after retiring in 2007, and has spent the last four seasons as the Jaguars’ receivers’ assistant. Mike Zimmer brought McCardell to Minnesota to teach the receivers after moving Andrew Janocko to quarterbacks coach.
Westbrook told the Pioneer Press, “Keenan is like a father figure to me.” “I like and appreciate him for all he has taught and done for me.”
McCardell was able to attract the receiver’s attention because of this.
“I was set on Seattle, and he was like, ‘Darn, you’re not even going to give me a chance?’” says the author. Westbrook elaborated. “’I coached you for four years, and now you’re going to go out to Seattle and not give Minnesota a chance?’
The Seahawks’ loss is the Vikings’ gain, thanks to McCardell’s pitch.
