The Lakers are coming off a disappointing loss to the Clippers where all of their chances were lost. Now, they begin play in the Western Conference Finals against another tough team: The Phoenix Suns. They have a golden chance to make a major statement with this win and get back into form as well.

The “what are the odds of the phoenix suns winning the championship” is a question that has been on many people’s minds. The Lakers have a golden chance to make a major statement with a primetime win over the Suns.

The Lakers Have a Golden Chance to Make a Major Statement With a Primetime Win Over the Suns

To say the least, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a difficult season. Injury problems and subpar performance have left the team with a 16-15 record two days before Christmas. Now, the Lakers must attempt to turn things around against the 24-5 Phoenix Suns, a team that has destroyed just about everyone, including the Lakers.

The Lakers are clearly underdogs in Tuesday’s matchup, since a defeat would drop them below.500. If they can pull off an upset, it will send a strong message to the rest of the league that the Purple and Gold aren’t yet dead.

Given that the Lakers have 17 titles to Phoenix’s none, it’s no surprise that the Lakers have mainly dominated their Pacific Division rivalry. Though there has been a change of guard in the previous 12 months, with the Suns taking it to their opponents in La La Land.

The Suns rebounded from six consecutive losing seasons with a 51-21 record and a trip to the NBA Finals in 2020-21. Two of those regular-season wins came against Los Angeles: a 114-104 triumph in early March and a 111-94 hammering only 19 days later. Phoenix and Los Angeles would meet in the first round of the playoffs, with the Suns winning in six games thanks to a series-altering groin injury to Anthony Davis.

The Lakers were no match for the Suns on October 22, even with new addition Russell Westbrook joining LeBron James and AD. In a commanding 115-105 victory at Staples Center, Phoenix led by as many as 31 points.

Los Angeles has now lost four consecutive games and seven of its past ten versus Phoenix since that early-season setback.

With a victory against the Suns, the Lakers can make a big statement.

Given their recent record versus the Suns, it’s difficult to be enthusiastic about a Lakers win on Tuesday night. Especially in light of the newest news about Davis’ MCL sprain. Though it’s not ridiculous to believe the Lakers can stun the world by defeating the Suns at home.

Even without Davis, the Lakers have more to work with than they had at the start of the season, regardless of their record. Following a rough start, Westbrook is now figuring out his place on the squad. LeBron has just put many injuries and a stint on health and safety regulations behind him, putting forth a string of outstanding games. Since arriving in Los Angeles, veteran journeyman Isaiah Thomas has offered a great spark on offense. And a defense that was once among the league’s worst is now rated eighth in defensive rating.

The Lakers have a chance to show a couple things by defeating a club like the Suns. First, they can demonstrate that they can win games without Davis, who is expected to be sidelined for at least the next four weeks. Then, just days before his 37th birthday, James can show he’s still capable of leading a squad. Finally, LA could affirm that the season is far from finished, and that a sluggish start can be overcome at any time.

The city of Los Angeles is getting some much-needed reinforcements.

According to the Lakers, Dwight Howard and Talen Horton-Tucker have been approved from the health and safety requirements.

The Lakers are one of several clubs struggling with health and safety procedures for its athletes. Even head coach Frank Vogel has been ordered to stay in Chicago, where the Lakers played their last game against the Bulls on Sunday. However, two crucial players are expected to return tonight.

Talen Horton-Tucker and Dwight Howard have passed procedures and are ready to play, according to ESPN. Horton-Tucker, who missed the first 13 games of the season due to thumb surgery, scored double digits in four straight games before being forced to sit out the last three. Howard has also missed the last three games, which came just as the 18-year veteran was establishing himself as a new member of the starting five.

LA will continue to play with role players Austin Reaves, Malik Monk, and Kent Bazemore in protocols. THT and Howard, on the other hand, will aid a Lakers club that has had to replace players like Chaundee Brown and Jay Huff.

The Lakers will be even more motivated to go out Tuesday night and pull off a major upset now that they’ve received some excellent news on the roster.
