The Lakers have stumbled to a 3-5 start with LeBron James gone, but Shaquille O’Neal told The Undefeated his team is “right where they want to be.” If the rest of their games go according to plan, that might just turn out true.

Shaquille O’Neal is a retired American professional basketball player who played for the Los Angeles Lakers from 1992 to 2011. He has an estimated net worth of $400 million, and he joined the TNT broadcast team in 2012. Read more in detail here: shaq o’neal net worth.

The Los Angeles Lakers Are Struggling, but Shaquille O'Neal Boldly Claims They're 'Right Where They Want to Be'

It used to be that it was too early to start panicking about the Los Angeles Lakers. But, at 23-24, it’s fair to assume the panic button has been pounded, crushed, and shattered at least 12 times.

Despite having an All-Star lineup in LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook, the Lakers have unable to produce championship-caliber basketball. Whether it’s due to injury, roster construction, or just bad play, LA is fighting to remain in the postseason hunt.

However, not everyone is concerned about the Lakers’ current situation. Shaquille O’Neal, a former member of the Purple and Gold, is unconcerned with LA’s.500 record. In fact, Shaq feels the Lakers are “exactly where they want to be” after their poor season.

For the Los Angeles Lakers, everything has gone wrong.

The Lakers will be lifting their 17th NBA championship trophy in October 2020. Many are doubting whether they can even win a playoff game a little over a year later.

Los Angeles is a poor 23-24, with all of its metrics indicating that the win is deserved. The Purple and Gold are ranked 24th in offensive rating and 16th in defensive rating heading into Tuesday. During Davis’ absence due to an MCL injury, the team’s defense has weakened, however the All-Star center returned to play against the Brooklyn Nets.

To some extent, injuries may be blamed. The Lakers have clearly suffered as a result of Davis’ injury over the previous month. However, with James missing a few games due to an ankle sprain and groin ailment early in the season, the “big three” has only started 16 games together.

Even a diminished roster, though, cannot compensate for some of the players’ poor performance. Many of GM Rob Pelinka’s decisions have backfired, but none more so than the Westbrook deal. In fact, owing to his bad fit in Hollywood, LA is already considering possibilities to part ways with the former MVP.

The Lakers, according to Shaquille O’Neal, are content where they are.

It’s difficult to picture the Lakers expected to be below.500 after 47 games. The Lakers, on the other hand, are happy with how things have gone, according to O’Neal.

On Tuesday’s episode of Inside the NBA, Shaq discussed how the veteran-led Lakers aren’t worried about finishing towards the bottom of the standings.

“What many people don’t realize is that the Lakers are exactly where they want to be.” ‘Wait till the playoffs,’ you tell yourself as you get older. So, despite their lackluster performance, they’re still in eighth place. So, if I were them, I wouldn’t want to play in the first round against Phoenix or Golden State. “Memphis is our destination.”

The Lakers, in Shaq’s opinion, shouldn’t be contending for the Western Conference title. All they have to accomplish in the first round is avoid the Suns or Warriors. If Phoenix and Golden State hold onto the top two slots, that would almost certainly mean capturing the sixth seed. It would also save LA from having to compete in the dreaded play-in competition.

O’Neal went on to say that teams facing the Lakers care a lot more than the Lakers do at this point in the season.

“When you’re older, that’s how you think,” Shaq said. “When you’re playing against a LeBron James or a Carmelo Anthony, your opponents will be playing much over their heads.” I’m not going to get up for you the way you’re getting up for me if I’m playing against you. They’re just where they want to be throughout the playoffs when we know what’s at stake.”

To have a shot, the Lakers must have all three stars.

Even if Shaq isn’t very concerned about Los Angeles, there’s still reason to be concerned. Over the previous several weeks, the defensive deficiencies have been exposed. Westbrook is who he is, and it seems that a trade is improbable. Meanwhile, head coach Frank Vogel faces the risk of being fired at any time.

LeBron, AD, and Russ need to spend time together in order for the Lakers to earn the sixth seed and truly be a danger in the playoffs. There is a lot of it.

As previously stated, Tuesday’s game against the Nets is just the 16th time all three superstars have appeared together. In an ideal world, James, Davis, and Westbrook would have worked it out in the first few weeks and be on their way by December. Instead, injuries have prevented the group from gelling, resulting in LA battling mediocrity at the midway mark.

Staying healthy is, of course, easier said than done. Especially for the league’s oldest roster. But only if LA can keep its core intact for the remainder of the regular season will it have a shot in the playoffs.

If not, Shaq’s declaration will be remembered as another bravado about a Lakers club that never failed to deliver.
