Tyronn Lue, the current coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, has admitted how hard it was to take over the 2016 Cavs. The team had a lot of issues that he had to work through. Read more in detail here: tyronn lue net worth.
Tyronn Lue, the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers, helped them win the NBA title in 2016. The Cavs not only broke the city’s 50-plus-year title drought, but they also became the first team in NBA Finals history to come back from a 3-1 hole and win.
Lue, on the other hand, was on the verge of rejecting the position.
Even knowing how great the squad was that year, the current Los Angeles Clippers coach stated in a recent interview how difficult it was to take over the LeBron James-led team in 2016.

Tyronn Lue worked as an assistant coach for the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Clippers in the past. However, Lue joined the Cavaliers as an assistant head coach under David Blatt in 2014-15, the same year LeBron James returned to Cleveland from the Miami Heat.
During that season, the Cavs experienced an up-and-down season. They began 19-20 and didn’t appear like a championship contender. GM David Griffin, on the other hand, made a number of personnel changes to help enhance the squad around LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love. James and his teammates went on an incredible run at the finish of the season, reaching the NBA Finals.
The Cavaliers were unable to win the championship that year due to injuries to Irving and Love, but they got off to a fast start in 2015-16. They went 30-11 in their first 41 games and seemed to be on their way to repeating as Eastern Conference champions.
They didn’t, however, seem to be as good as the defending champion Golden State Warriors that season. As a result, Cleveland made the surprising decision to dismiss Blatt and elevate Lue to head coach.
Lue, on the other hand, was apprehensive to take the job.

Tyronn Lue recently joined former NBA players Quentin Richardson and Darius Miles on the Knuckleheads podcast. He spoke about how tough it was to take over the Cavs after his supervisor was fired by the club.
“Coach Blatt offered me the job,” I said. On the March 30 episode, Lue remarked, “It’s hard to watch someone be dismissed in the midst of the season, and you have to take over.” “When it occurred the first time, I thought to myself, ‘Man, I can’t do this.’ ‘Ty, you’ve got to take it,’ Doc Rivers said when I phoned. We don’t have an opportunity to get a fantastic club straight quickly as young Black coaches. ‘You have no choice but to accept it.’ Then I dialed Jerry West’s number. “He screamed at me so much.
“It was difficult,” Lue continued. You come into a scenario where we were No. 1 in the East at the time he was dismissed…. I was apprehensive. To be honest, I was terrified. I was terrified. Having a team that just made it to the championship game. We were the first team in the East, and I got to take over in the middle of the season. You won’t be able to leave your mark on the squad; there will be no training camp. You’re simply making it up as you go along, and I’m learning as I go along.”
Tyronn Lue became the terrific coach he is now as a result of the Cavs scenario.
Tyronn Lue said that his difficult season with the Cavaliers helped him grow as a coach. And he’s been demonstrating it ever since.
Lue and his staff made the necessary modifications after his team fell down 3-1 in the NBA Finals that year. They rallied to win the series. Even in 2018, when Kyrie Irving was no longer on the team and the Cavs’ skill level was far lower than in prior years, he helped lead Cleveland to two more straight Finals.
Lue has continued to demonstrate his superior leadership talents after becoming the Clippers’ head coach in 2020-21.
Last year’s conference semifinals saw the Los Angeles Lakers lose their best player, Kawhi Leonard. Despite this, the squad beat the Utah Jazz in the conference finals and brought the Phoenix Suns to six games.
For the most of the season, Lue’s team has been without Leonard and its second-best player, Paul George. However, it has managed to remain afloat and is now competing in the NBA Play-In Tournament. With George back on the floor and Leonard (possibly) recovering, the team now has a chance to go on a surprising playoff run.
Tyronn Lue has established himself as a top NBA coach. Who knows how brilliant he might have been if he hadn’t been thrust into a difficult position with the Cavs in 2015-16.
