Trae Young is the best player on the young Atlanta Hawks team. With his player efficiency rating (PER) over 25 and showing no signs of slowing down, Trae Young may be the best player on the Hawks roster. Many fans want to see him traded to a team like the Boston Celtics or the Philadelphia 76ers. But, where will he end up?

The 2017-2018 season has been a lackluster one for Trae Young. In what was supposed to be a breakout campaign for the young point guard, he has struggled to find consistency and has seen his usage percentage decrease. The increased role of Atlanta’s bench players, led by the emergence of rookie John Collins, has forced Young to take a back seat, which in turn, impacts his overall efficiency and overall performance. As such, it is possible that we haven’t seen the last of Young in Atlanta

As one of the young players on the Atlanta Hawks, Trae Young has more than earned his stripes. The athletic guard is a force to be reckoned with on the court and has become a prominent character in the sports world. As the season progresses, it is more and more likely that he will become an even bigger star.

Atlanta Hawks guard Tra Young is without a doubt one of the best young players in the NBA. Just ask the New York Knicks. The 22-year-old budding superstar just led the Hawks to their first winning season in four years (as much as Atlanta last made the playoffs), their first playoff run in five years and their first division title in six years, proving he’s not just a scorer. He has made Atlanta a real contender to win the Eastern Conference, and if the team continues to add players, they will be a real threat to win the NBA title in the coming years (yes, I said it). But only if the franchise is truly committed to its young star. With his contract expiring, the Hawks must be willing to spend a lot of money to prevent Young from moving to a top franchise. And we say sooner rather than later.

Trae Young became a superstar in his first three seasons with the Hawks

. Young was selected by the Dallas Mavericks with the fifth overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft and quickly traded to the Hawks in exchange for the rights to Luka Doncic. Young had a fantastic first season, averaging 19.1 points and 8.1 assists. He was named the NBA’s best rookie and finished second to Doncic in the rookie of the year election. In the 2019-20 season, Young became the fourth top scorer in the NBA, averaging 29.6 points per game, and was invited to his first NBA All-Star Game, where he scored 10 points as a starter for Giannis. He was easily one of the most notable non-players in the 2021 All-Star Game, but Young had a fantastic 2020-21 season with Atlanta. Because the Hawks’ roster was much more balanced last year than in the previous two years, Young didn’t have to take as many shots and score as he did last season, but he still averaged 25.3 points per game, along with 9.4 assists and 3.9 rebounds. He also reduced interceptions and improved his defense, making him an even bigger threat going forward.

Ice Trey had a phenomenal post-season

. After leading the Hawks to a 41-31 record and the Southwest Division title, Young made an incredible start to the postseason by scoring 32 points in Game 1 of the series against the Knicks, including the decisive basket less than a second after Atlanta’s 107-105 victory that silenced the hostile Madison Square Garden crowd. The Knicks won in Game 2, but Young and the Hawks dominated the rest of the series, winning five games by an average of 29.2 points and 9.8 assists. Ice Trey then scored 35 points and handed out 10 assists in Game 1 of the second round of the series, in which the Philadelphia 76ers won 128-124 over the Atlanta 76ers. No matter what, Young has proven that he is now among the NBA’s elite and on the verge of a big payday.

When can Young leave the Hawks?

Atlanta had a club option for years 3 and 4, both of which were waived, meaning Young will be a free agent in the summer of 2022. For those who are not familiar with this concept : The free agency restriction means Young can sign the offer, but Atlanta will have the ability to negotiate it. But it’s unlikely the Hawks will let it get that far. After this season, Young is eligible for a five-year, $168 million contract extension, which would keep him in Atlanta until the 2026-27 season, when he will be just 28 years old. That Young will sign a contract extension this summer is all but certain, as the owners have proven they are willing to put pieces around him to make the team competitive. It remains to be seen if Young will remain with the Hawks for the rest of his career. But it’s likely he’ll stay there for at least the next six years, and if the owners can continue to build the team around him, the title drought that has lasted more than six decades could finally end. The Hawks have lost four straight games and are just 3-6 when Ayón and Young share the floor.. Read more about is trae young hurt and let us know what you think.
