Stefon Diggs, a wide receiver with the Minnesota Vikings, left the club in 2019 and was traded to the Buffalo Bills. Diggs is a new man in Buffalo, and one of the greatest wide receivers in the game, after sulking and tweeting his way through a difficult final season in Minneapolis. His new team-first mentality, which will be fully on show in 2021, is certain to irritate at least some Vikings supporters.
Stefon Diggs had a tumultuous departure with the Minnesota Vikings.
Stefon Diggs was not regarded as a promising NFL prospect. The Minnesota Vikings selected the 6-foot, 191-pound receiver in the fifth round out of Maryland. He fought his way up from that shaky start to become a great pass-catcher in the NFL.
Diggs caught 365 passes for 4,623 yards and 30 touchdowns in five seasons with Minnesota.
On January 14, 2018, he even scored the most famous touchdown in Vikings history. With 10 seconds remaining in the Divisional Round of the 2017 playoffs, Diggs grabbed a pass from quarterback Case Keenum and sprinted 30-plus yards into the end zone as time expired, despite being down 24-23 to the New Orleans Saints. The play has since been dubbed the “Minneapolis Miracle.”
However, Diggs’ stay in the Twin Cities came to an end in a less-than-miraculous manner.
He has 23 total targets in the first five games of 2019 after averaging 10 per game in 2018. Diggs was the odd man out due to the team’s devotion to Dalvin Cook and the running game, as well as QB Kirk Cousins’ relationship with WR Adam Thielen.
It didn’t go well for the talented wideout. After an early-season defeat to the Chicago Bears, he turned to social media to post cryptic comments about the squad and even missed meetings and practices. According to ESPN, the club penalized him $200,000 for his violation.
Despite this, Diggs finished the season with a career-high 1,130 receiving yards. However, the harm seemed to have been done from both sides’ viewpoints.
According to NFL.com, the Vikings sold Diggs (along with a seventh-round selection in 2020) to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for first-, fifth-, and sixth-round choices in 2020, as well as a fourth-round pick in 2021.
With the Buffalo Bills, Diggs believes it’s all about the team.
With the Bills’ selection, the Vikings selected LSU wide receiver Justin Jefferson. Jefferson hauled in 88 passes for 1,400 yards and seven touchdowns on 88 catches. As a rookie, he was named to the Pro Bowl, but the club finished with a 7-9 record.
Stefon Diggs, on the other hand, shone in Buffalo. He formed a unique bond with quarterback Josh Allen, and the two led the team to a 13-3 record, its first AFC East title since 1995, and the AFC Championship game.
The Bills are off to another strong start in 2021, despite a Week 1 setback against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Teams, on the other hand, are removing Diggs. In three games, defenses have only given up 191 yards to the star.
Vikings fans may be anticipating a vintage Diggs meltdown. While he is less engaged in the offense, the receiver says he couldn’t be happier and is pleased of his teammates’ success:
Because I’m in this position, I’m a perfectionist, therefore things aren’t going to be flawless. Everything isn’t going to go your way, and offensive success is much more essential than individual achievement. And I mean it when I say that… when it’s my time to shine, I’m going to shine, but I’m not in a hurry.

Diggs also said that he is aware of opponents’ game plans to thwart him. Despite this, he admires colleagues Gabriel Davis, Emmanuel Sanders, Cole Beasley, and Dawson Knox for getting the job done while opponents are focusing on him.
Diggs’ new calm, collected, and team-first mentality is a total 180 from his Minnesota attitude, and Vikings fans must be tearing their hair out listening to him.
His former club, which is now 1-2, could use a playmaker like Diggs right now.

With his relocation to Buffalo, Diggs’ life has altered dramatically. After the move, he had his greatest season of his career. Diggs set NFL records for catches (127) and yards (1,535) in 2020, while also scoring eight touchdowns.
He also formed a connection with his burgeoning superstar quarterback that he lacked with Cousins in Minnesota. According to all accounts, the two players became close over the course of the season, and as the Buffalo Bills’ success increased, the two gave many effusive post-game interviews about how much they enjoy playing together.
The quarterback and the catcher are so close these days that they were featured on the cover of SI Kids with the headline “The BFF Issue.”
The NFL is no stranger to a new home curing a great pass-catcher of their “Diva Wide Receiver Syndrome.” Randy Moss departed Oakland for the New England Patriots, Keyshawn Johnson left Tampa Bay for the Dallas Cowboys, and Terrell Owens left — well, not Owens, but you get the idea.
Stefon Diggs is a Buffalo Bills rookie. That may be music to the Bills Mafia’s ears, but it must hurt Vikings Land.
As much as Diggs will be remembered fondly in cold Minnesota for the Minneapolis Miracle, his conversion to team-first choir boy in similarly icy Buffalo will always irritate Vikings supporters.
